SUMMER TOUR RECAP, PART 1: THE SOUTHEAST

I spent most of the summer on the road with my pup Bridget and amazing singer-songwriter, Chuck Hawthorne. We toured for 7 weeks, traveling across 19 states, playing 22 shows in 11 states, and crossing the Continental Divide approximately 2 dozen times. We even had a week vacation midway through in Jackson Hole, Wyoming! It was a blast!

Chuck recently released his debut album, Silver Line, which has been getting some serious critical acclaim and radio play. The record hit #2 on the FAR chart, #17 on the Euroamericana Chart, and was recently named one of 2015's best country records by the Telegraph UK. I highly recommend checking out his tunes! We are playing more shows together this fall across Texas, so please check out the gigs page to see where you can come see us both play!

The first leg of our tour took us across the Southeastern US all the way to Jacksonville, North Carolina, home of Camp Lejeune and birthplace of Ryan Adams. It started, however, with a major life change for me...I moved out of my house! I've lived in the same wonderful little blue house for the past 7 years, and it was truly a home for me. However, for a long while I've needed the financial and geographic flexibility to be on the road more, so I finally took the leap and put all my stuff in storage! I'm now splitting my time between Houston, Austin, and the road, and it's been great so far! That said, getting out the door for this tour was a bit of a challenge...I had a lot of stuff!

The first stop of the tour was Dallas for a show at one of my favorite spots, Adair's Saloon. Then, because moving always takes longer than you plan, we had to haul everything back to Houston to finish up the dregs of moving. Isn't moving the worst? Thankfully the next stop was New Orleans! We had a great time playing at Fair Grinds Coffeehouse, hanging out with my friend Lizzy D, and exploring the lyrical origin of Guy Clark's favorite song about a house on Toulouse, Ramblin' Jack Elliott's 912 Greens. Also, there were beignets...because beignets.

We had a night off between New Orleans and Atlanta and thought it would be cool to see the Gulf of Mexico, so we stopped in Pensacola for a little beach time, and Bridget went for a nice swim. After her time in the water she hid underneath the desk in the hotel room to avoid taking a bath...she was unsuccessful!

From there we were off to Atlanta, where we had some time to catch up with friends and family and play a great show to a full house at Java Monkey in Decatur,
despite a power outage a couple of hours before the show due to some crazy weather. I'm pretty sure a tornado went down the street while
we were having drinks with my good buddy Chris Fox before the show! Thankfully the lights came back on and we had a great evening with family and friends! Chuck was surprised by one of his Marine buddies, Staff Sergeant Kevin Spivey, who he hadn't seen in many years, and I had my Aunt Pat, Uncle Deacon, and my cousins Lindsay (with her boyfriend Tristan) and Teague (with his wife Crystal) at the show. I'll be in Atlanta again in late October/early November - can't wait to be back!

Next we headed north through the Cackalacky states all the way to Jacksonville, North Carolina, where we hung out with Chuck's good Marine buddies Bill and his wife, Larry,
his wife Janna and their kiddos, and we were honored to play at the 10 year cancer free anniversary party for Chuck's good friend John Sackett's son Jack. We celebrated well into the early morning hours!

Did I mention Chuck was in the Marines? He retired as a Major a few years back after serving our country for 21 years. He is still a crack shot, and we tested his skills on our day off at my buddy Taylor Hayden's fantastic new shooting range in Charlotte called Blackstone Shooting Sports. If you're in the area, go check it out!

We then headed west to Music City, where we played a show at the Turn One Bar in East Nashville, hung out with my friends the Lankfords, and Chuck toured Mountainside Studios in West Nashville, where I recorded the vocals and overdubs for my upcoming album with producer Bil VornDick. We got to check out cool old master tapes from some classic albums, hold a Grammy (what?!), and enjoy a good visit with Bil and his wife Patricia.

Stay tuned for Part 2 of the Chuck & Libby Summer Tour Recap: The Midwest!!! HUGE thanks to the friends and family on this leg of the tour who gave us a place to stay! We literally couldn't do it without you: Josh & Christine Lipscomb, Lindsay Koch & Tristan Donnelly, Bill Marple, John & Jena Sackett, Taylor & Sarah Hayden, and Bronson & Terri Lankford.
